On November 18th, The American Cancer Society is hosting the 35th year of the Great American Smokeout, a day that encourages smokers to quit. If you are a smoker, this is your time to quit and setting a “quit date” is key.
Research shows that if you pick a quit day in the next 30 days and stick to it, you’ll be more likely to be successful. (more…)

This year, Americans will spend close to $9 billion on candy, and in October a lot of that candy will end up on the teeth of trick or-treating children1. My apple a day wants to remind parents that when it comes to cavities and teeth not all candy is created equal. Cavities and tooth decay are caused by prolonged exposure to sugar. Parents and care givers need to be on the front lines helping kids fight cavities by decreasing the amount of time sugar comes in contact with their teeth as well as moderating the amount of candy their kids consume. Most farmer’s markets are open through mid October so with these last few visits make sure you know what’s in season this fall to get the best deals for your health.
